TULSA — Jessica Shults' two-run single in the top of the sixth inning helped top-ranked Oklahoma beat Tulsa 3-1 Thursday at the Collins Softball Complex.
The game was added to OU's schedule late Wednesday night after a previously scheduled doubleheader vs. Louisiana-Lafayette in Norman was rained out. As it is, the Sooners improved to 31-2 after beating a pesky, No. 18-ranked Tulsa (29-8-1) team that tied the score 1-1 in the fourth inning on Samantha Cobb's home run.
OU scored all three of its runs against Tulsa starter Aimee Creger, who started the game with the third-best earned run average (0.86) in the nation. Creger allowed six hits, walked one and struck out five.
Michelle Gascoigne and Keilani Ricketts each pitched for the Sooners, combining for no walks and 11 strikeouts. Tulsa managed just four hits.
Oklahoma opens a Big 12 series against Baylor at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Norman. The Sooners and Bears will also play noon Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
