Lauren Chamberlain hit a home run, and Kelsey Stevens struck out 11 as Oklahoma trimmed Tulsa 1-0 on Sunday during the final day of the Courtyard Marriott Softball Tournament in Norman.
Chamberlain led off the sixth inning with her sixth homer of the season. That was enough for Stevens, who blanked the Golden Hurricane (18-3) on just two hits.
Former Mustang High standout Aimee Creger pitched a strong game for Tulsa. She allowed four hits but also struck out 11 while suffering her first loss of the season.
OU (17-6) next plays 6 p.m. Friday at Louisiana-Lafayette.
Oklahoma State pitcher Simone Freeman totaled 17 strikeouts Sunday — 11 as a starter and six as a reliever — during the Cowgirls’ doubleheader split against Missouri State during the final day of the Mizuno Classic in Stillwater.
OSU won the first game 5-2 behind Freeman, who gave up six hits and three walks while improving to 11-3. The Cowgirls (15-8) lost the nightcap 5-1, although Freeman blanked the Bears (12-7) on three hits and a walk over the final four innings.
Danielle Riddle had four hits for the Cowgirls, who next play 6 p.m. Tuesday at North Texas in Denton.
