College softball: Leslie Miller's homer powers OU past Baylor

Leslie Miller keyed a big third inning with a two-run homer Friday night, and No. 13-ranked Oklahoma trimmed No. 12 Baylor 3-2 in Big 12 softball before 1,147 fans at Getterman Stadium in Waco, Texas.

Miller’s homer came in a three-run third against Baylor starter Whitney Canion, who started the game with a scoreless streak of 211/3 innings. Miller’s third homer of the season gave the Sooners (31-8 overall, 8-0 Big 12) a 2-1 lead. Georgia Casey added a run-scoring triple later in the inning.

OU pitcher Kelsey Stevens improved to 22-5. She gave up both runs on five hits and three walks. Stevens struck out six.

Holly Holl gave Baylor (29-8, 3-2) a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning with her third homer of the season.

Oklahoma has outscored the opposition 90-11 during a 13-game win streak.

The Sooners and Bears continue the series with a single game at 4 p.m. Saturday.

RED RAIDERS’ RALLY SINKS COWGIRLS

Texas Tech rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday night, and it stunned Oklahoma State 6-5 in Big 12 softball before 455 fans at Rocky Johnson Field in Lubbock.

Tech (29-14 overall, 2-5 Big 12) had five hits in the big seventh inning, although the game was won on Kristi Belshe’s sacrifice fly with one out. Sydni Emanuel scored the winning run; Emanuel reached base on a two-run single against Cowgirls reliever Whitney Whitehorn, who took the loss despite throwing just two-thirds of an inning.

OSU (22-17, 2-6) scored three runs in the first inning and single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings.Tiffany Mikkelson led Oklahoma State with two hits and two RBIs.

The teams continue the series at 4 p.m. Saturday.
