NORMAN — Oklahoma used the big bats, and Shelby Pendley recorded a victory in her first start as a pitcher Sunday as the Sooners thumped Texas Tech 13-0 in Big 12 softball before 844 fans at Marita Hynes Field.

OU improved to 43-10 overall and 14-2 in the league after run-ruling Texas Tech in five innings. The No. 15-ranked Sooners clinched a third-straight Big 12 championship and 11th overall.

Sophomores Leslie Miller and Whitney Ellis each homered; Miller’s was a three-run smack in the first inning, and then Ellis added her second grand slam of the season in the next frame.

Pendley blanked the Red Raiders (35-19, 8-10) on two hits, three walks and five strikeouts. She added two hits and three RBIs for college softball’s defending national champion.

The Sooners next play 1 p.m. Saturday against Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
