College softball roundup: Shelby Pendley hits two triples, Lauren Chamberlain returns as OU sweeps doubleheader

OU junior Shelby Pendley tied a school record with two triples and drove in five runs as No. 12 Oklahoma softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of UAB (29-22) with an 8-4 win Saturday at Marita Hynes Field in Norman. It was OU’s ninth consecutive nonconference victory.

Pendley hit a three-run triple in the second inning and added another triple in the fourth that scored two runs. It marks the ninth time in program history that an OU player tripled twice in a game.

The Sooners (38-10) won the early game 11-3 in five innings as slugger Lauren Chamberlain returned after missing 23 games with a back injury. Chamberlain went 2 for 2.

Kelsey Stevens got the win in each game for the Sooners to improve to 28-7.

The third game of the series will be at noon Sunday in Norman.

Cowgirls fall to Texas

The Oklahoma State softball team dropped Game 2 of a three-game series to Texas 12-1 in five innings Saturday at McCombs Field in Austin, Texas.

Whitney Whitehorn (4-8) got the start for OSU, giving up five runs on four hits and striking out two to take the loss.

The Cowgirls (25-22, 5-10 Big 12) had two hits on the day, a base hit by Danielle Riddle and the solo home run by Tiffany Mikkelson.

OSU will wrap up the series with the Longhorns (29-19, 8-4 Big 12) at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Austin.
