Oklahoma State advanced to the National Duals' championship round by winning twice Sunday. The top-ranked Cowboys whipped regional host Kent State (Ohio) 34-10, and then crushed Northern Iowa 39-7.

“I thought we wrestled pretty well,” OSU coach John Smith said. “I look forward to next week and a tough, tough tournament.”

The Cowboys will join other regional winners as well as Big 10 schools Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Ohio State on Friday and Saturday in Minneapolis.

Oklahoma State totaled six pins Sunday, including two by 157-pounder Alex Dieringer. All told, the Cowboys finished the day with 14 bonus-point wins.

OSU suffered one upset, when 133-pounder Jon Morrison lost a 3-2 decision to Kent State's Mackenzie McGuire. Morrison is ranked No. 5 at the weight; McGuire is unranked.

“The one thing that stood out more than anything was the six points,” Smith said. “It was just exciting.”

The Cowboys improved to 15-0 in duals.

The No. 25-ranked Oklahoma Sooners did not advance to the National Duals championship round, losing two regional matches Sunday in Corvallis, Ore.

OU lost to No. 7 Virginia Tech 33-6 and then 27-19 to Michigan.

The Sooners' Kendric Maple, ranked No. 1 at 141 pounds, remained undefeated with an 18-3 technical fall victory over Michigan's Mike Hillock. Maple (23-0) did not wrestle against Virginia Tech.

OU did get a couple of upset wins against Michigan. Unranked Kyle Garcia posted a 9-8 decision over No. 12 Sean Boyle at 125 pounds. Unranked heavyweight Keldrick Hall trimmed No. 19 Ben Apland, 6-5.

Oklahoma next competes March 8-9 in the Big 12 Championships at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater.
