College wrestling: OU cruises past Iowa State

Sooners pick up bonus-point wins from Cody Brewer, Nick Lester, Kendric Maple and Andrew Howe.

The Oklahoma wrestling team remained undefeated in duals with a 27-11 victory over Big 12 rival Iowa State on Sunday in Ames, Iowa.

Fourth-ranked OU (7-0 overall, 2-0 in the Big 12) took seven of the 10 matches against No. 17 Iowa State (6-2, 1-1).

The Sooners got bonus-point wins from Cody Brewer (133 pounds), Nick Lester (141 pounds), Kendric Maple (149 pounds), and Andrew Howe (174 pounds).

OU returns to action at 2 p.m. Sunday against No. 10 Northern Iowa at McCasland Field House.

UCO FOURTH AT NATIONAL DUALS

The Central Oklahoma wrestling team suffered two losses on Sunday and finished fourth at the NWCA Division II National Duals in Des Moines, Iowa.

Third-ranked UCO (4-2) was defeated by Newberry 19-18 in the semifinals. UCO won five of the first six matches in the dual, but Newberry was victorious in the last four bouts to earn the win.

The Bronchos also failed to hold a lead in the third-place dual, dropping the final two matches and falling 22-14 to St. Cloud State.

Jordan Basks (149 pounds), Cory Dauphin (157 pounds), and Chris Watson (165 pounds) went 2-0 on the day for UCO.

OCU WOMEN FINISH THIRD

Oklahoma City University finished third in the women's portion of the NWCA National Duals on Sunday in Des Moines. The Stars, ranked third in the Women's College Wrestling Association, dropped to the consolation bracket with a 27-17 loss to No. 2 Simon Fraser (British Columbia). OCU rebounded with a 36-8 rout of Wayland Baptist (Texas) in the third-place match.

Cody Pfau, Brieana Delgado, Rachel McFarland, Demi Strub and Heather O'Connor had falls for OCU against No. 4-ranked Wayland Baptist.
