Color receives more than lip service from artist

For women who have worn neutrals the past decade or longer and are a bit timid about color, he suggests starting with a pigmented gloss. It’s usually lighter and softer but will introduce a bit of boldness into a wardrobe.

"I always try to encourage people to get something completely different than what they have in their drawer at home.”

He suggests softer cheeks if you go with a bold lip, but he always likes a splash of color on the eyes.

The idea is to select a few products that will work into your existing look, not to change every single thing, he said. If you usually wear neutrals, opt for a colored liner or a brighter lip.

"It really can transform your entire neutral look into something a little bit bolder.”

Think of makeup as an accessory. "Lipsticks are like shoes. Accessorize your face just like you’re accessorizing a new dress.”
