SILVER CITY >> The Silver High baseball team picked up another two wins in non district play. The Fighting Colts beat Ruidoso, 14-3, and 3-2, on the road to improve to 16-4 overall.

In the first game, Silver's Dominic DeMarco got the win on the hill, as he went six innings. He allowed four hits, while striking out six and walking one batter.

Hitting for Silver were Gabe Morales, 1-for-4, with a walk; Zach Jasso, 1-for-3; DeMarco, 3-for-4, with a walk; Joe Murillo, 1-for-2, with a walk and a hit by pitch; Shakur Martinez, 3-for-4, with a double and a hit by pitch; and Derek Salas, 1-for-4.

In the second game, DeMarco hit a three-run blast in the first inning and the Colts held on for a 3-2 victory.

Martinez got the win, as he went the distance, allowing nine hits, while striking out eight.

Hitting for Silver were Jasso, 1-for-3, with one hit by pitch; DeMarco, 1-for-4, with a homerun; Murillo, 1-for-3; Martinez, 1-for-3; Justin Montes, 1-for-3; and Alex Holguin, 1-for-1, with a hit by pitch.

"Our pitching again was consistent," head coach Claudie Thompson said. "It is what carried us to the wins. We still have work on offense to do. In the second game, we had chances to break the game wide open, but we didn't execute. We have to do a better job collectively hitting the ball."
