Comanche Nation will honor its World War II code talkers

LAWTON — The Comanche Nation will honor its World War II code talkers Saturday in a pageant of theater and song.

The event at McMahon Memorial Auditorium, 801 NW Serris Ave., will include an original play on the history of the Comanche code talkers by some tribal members.

Children from the Numunu Turetu Comanche Nation Childhood Development Center will sing in Comanche, and the Fort Sill Apache Fire Dancers will perform.

The pageant starts at 2 p.m. and will be repeated at 8 p.m. Admission is free.

Seventeen Comanche men serving in the Army used their language to communicate messages in battle during World War II.
