Comic book stars politician, Satan and men in togas

I learned a lot this week. Namely, Boy Scout leaders are pedophiles in togas.

Obviously, that is preposterous and offensive. Sadly, it's part of the information I gathered while reading a comic book produced by the re-election campaign for County Commissioner Brent Rinehart. The whole 16-page affair is expected to be mailed to voters, Rinehart told The Oklahoman. The point was to be lighthearted, he said.

Lighthearted campaign materials: Good idea. Insulting as many people as possible with cartoon drawings: Bad idea.

Then again, I've never run for political office, so who am I to say what works in the life-and-death battle for votes? Maybe some people will enjoy the comic book, which includes a balding man with glasses explaining the history of Rinehart's time in office.

Rinehart is the commissioner representing District 2 of Oklahoma County, which includes all or parts of Bethany, Choctaw, Del City, Harrah, Midwest City, Oklahoma City and Valley Brook. He was elected an Oklahoma City councilman in 2000 and then a county commissioner in 2004. He's running for re-election this year.

Election years always stir up trouble. I always get frustrated with smear tactics and rudeness. But I try to keep an open mind for as long as possible. I'll read everybody's material regardless of party affiliation. So, I read Rinehart's comic book, which is available on News

OK.com.

I learned a lot of things I did not know, including the thing about Scout leaders in togas. These are the highlights:

•Rinehart was in the Air Force and his head is the size of an airplane.

•Run-on sentences and comma craziness is OK.

•There are lots of ways to spell the word pedophile, including using an f.

•The phrase "anal sodomy” is OK to put in a comic book.

•Satan is a relatively short guy, and angels have hugely disproportionate heads.

•Corporation Commissioner Jim Roth is the leader of all gay people.

•Liberals wear trench coats and hang out near lampposts at night. They look sort of like Dick Tracy.

•Satan himself has lost track of how many times he's tried to smear Rinehart's reputation.

•Sheriff John Whetsel carries a gun.

•Some man who looks like an angry Mark Twain wants Rinehart to shut up.

•Satan plans to vote for Brian Maughn or J.D. Johnston. (Apparently not even Satan will vote for the Democrats.)

To be fair, some of these things may be true. But I doubt Satan is even registered to vote in Oklahoma County.

robert, I wouldn't have a problem with a homosexual scout leader, not at all. Gay does not equal pedophile. In fact, pedophilia is found in gays at the same percentage rate that it is found in straights. This shows that homosexuals are no more prone to child molestation than are heterosexuals. Your argument does not hold up under statistical analysis. Allowing gay people to be scout leaders and teachers doesn't put our children in harm's way any more than allowing straight people to be scout leaders and teachers. .... .... .... Additionally, Drew Edmondson didn't sue the BSA. He filed a friend of the court brief that was in favor of a NJ court decision ordering the BSA to reinstate a homosexual scout leader. By definition, a friend of the court brief is from someone not involved in the litigation. And it wasn't a recent case, it happened in 2000. If you're going to argue a point, it would be helpful to first know what you're talking about.

One more comment the originator of this blog carrie coppernoll or however you spell her name. Seems to be pretty flipant about the whole point of Mr. Rineharts comic. If you think that the most important thing regarding this issue is the punctuation of our county commisioner. Then You have more problems. You have to know this state is not made up of homosexualls. Most people dont like to have sex with people of the same sex. We like the natural Choice god intended. So if you are wondering what Mr rinehart meant when he said pedophile. weather he says pediphile pedophole pedifile or what ever the point is he does not want a homosexuall man teaching our children in any capacity. How would you feel if this happend picture this your 10 year old boy going camping to earn his w.e.b.l.o.w pin (pardon the pun) and his scout master is a Homosexual. Would you be comfortable with that,,,, really?

Oklahomans,have alot of pride.The man found a way to get the peoples attention.You know,i didn,t know,that Drew edmondson sued the Boys scout of America.This is crazy.Since when do you put your kids in danger like that?Drew,you better start talking,because i don't think there are enough homos in oklahoma to re-elect you.Anyone that would take a chance,and put our children in"harms way" don't belong in office.You look at a man and a woman,its pretty obvious how it works.Its for pro-creation,and its suppose to feel good,so we would pro -create.Iwill not allow this myself.You will not get into our schools,and allow this to be socially ok.Drew you are in there to look after are kids,and any wrong doing.Not for money for your campiagn funds.This has to be true,because you and i know the magority of the oklahomans will not allow this!You as a states attorney general,just opened a can of worms,its beyond me that you would sue the boy scouts of america,for protecting our youth!!
