Was it because he was an only child? Because his family moved a lot? A coping mechanism?

Larry Lambert’s not sure where it came from, but he’s always had the urge to come up with funny stuff.

For many years, the Idabel native wrote jokes, skits and other things for comedians, performers and artists.

Then one day he decided, "I truly wanted to have my own project.” A comic strip would work, he decided.

Since Lambert, as he put it, "cannot draw a straight line,” he joined forces with Jerry King, a prolific comic artist from Ohio whose work has appeared in greeting cards, magazines, newspapers and other publications.

Together, the two came up with the "Top Three” cartoon.

The comic strip looks at the top three of just about anything. Worst crematorium slogans, for instance: "For a hot time, call us”; "Let us ‘urn’ your business”; "Think outside the box.” Topics can be political, sports-oriented, timely or just goofy.

The strip debuts today in The Oklahoman.

Lambert was born in 1955, and his family moved to the Chicago area when he was a child. When Lambert was in high school, the family returned to Oklahoma, moving to Antlers, where Lambert’s father would pull mobile homes for a living for 30 years.
