Forever is an awful long time to exchange for a year's worth of free wine.
But committed customers of Urban Wineworks continue to embrace the Plaza District winery's tattoo perks program.
In exchange for getting a tattoo of the company's logo, customers join a VIP club that entitles them to two free bottles of wine a month for a year and access to special wine tastings and other events.
So far, 25 people have branded themselves with the logo and are enjoying their perks, said Urban Wineworks general manager Andrew Stanley.
Here's the deal: the tattoo has to be at least half-dollar-size and located “somewhere appropriate” on the body, he said.
Having No Regrets Tattoo shop across the street from the winery makes the process painless — or at least convenient.
Ashley Smith, a tattoo artist at No Regrets, signed up for the perks program before the winery had even opened.
She and her boyfriend discovered Urban Wineworks at the Oklahoma State Fair last year and, after sampling the wine and hearing about the tattoo perks, ran back to the shop and immediately did the tattoos. She didn't think twice.
“It would have been different if their logo wasn't clean and graphically pleasing and it would have been different if I didn't love their wine,” Smith said.
She's inked about a dozen Urban Wineworks customers since, she said.
Customer Alan Anderson had the logo tattooed in red ink on his back, which set him back about $60.
“It pays for itself in the first two months,” he said.
Anderson said he has gotten to know the winery staff and they are like family. So, yes, the tattoo lasts forever, but so do the memories, he added.
