Common Core is to education what Obamacare is to health care

Numerous pro and con opinions have been expressed about Common Core and whether Oklahoma should remain committed to its standards. Without getting into the weeds or trying to pick the dandruff out of the salt shaker I will offer my not so humble opinion. Common Core was originated about 10 years ago and it was intended as an independent suggestion for standards in certain academic areas. It has since been kidnapped and bent, folded, spindled and mutilated into a federal program that mandates results.

This present version has also created a back door to allow political agenda indoctrination into texts under the Common Core umbrella. Detractors (such as Michelle Malkin and Chuck Norris) and supporters (such as Jeb Bush and Mike Huckabee) are passionate. But why is there a need for Common Core?

We’ve won two world wars, put men on the moon, led the world in science, engineering, innovations and medical advances and now, all of a sudden, our children can’t read! The education system supported the influx of millions of legal immigrants, refugees and citizens for centuries and now our children can’t do simple math! What happened?

Education went south ever since we started the U.S. Department of Education. Add to that the National Education Association and all the attendant social engineering. Perhaps we should get back to basics and local control instead of using our children as guinea pigs. Common Core is to education as Obamacare is to affordable health care.
