Common sense lacking in arguments for tax cuts

Published: January 7, 2013

Stuart Jolly (Point of View, Dec. 26) is shilling for the right-wing Koch brothers. Don't raise taxes on the wealthy, he booms! Tax cuts for everyone! His argument that low-tax states somehow attract wealthy people is nonsense. If wealthy folks want to move somewhere else, it's likely more about location than taxes.

How can anyone propose tax cuts and push for growth when we can't even take care of the people we have? Tax cuts in this last decade have damaged many state agencies, leaving them to put patches on top of patches, their workers criticized for failing to do the jobs of what should be for two or even three people. Our legislators routinely run away from their jobs because of well-financed mouthpieces like Jolly who spin them into submission. It is indecent.

The propaganda of Jolly and the subhead “It's Common Sense” is a slap in the face to the hardworking state employees who serve with dignity the citizens of Oklahoma. The people of Oklahoma deserve more than reheated campaign bilge from discredited political causes. Jolly's point of view doesn't represent the heart and soul of the Republican Party.
