With a holiday twist to big band and rockabilly, Brian Setzer and his Orchestra filled The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa on Friday night, selling out the venue for the second straight year.
He reminded the audience of his rockabilly roots as the 18-piece orchestra blasted through classic Stray Cat and Christmas songs.
"I met Michael Jackson once," Setzer said.
He said Jackson told him he liked the "song about the cat." Setzer then ripped into "Stray Cat Strut."
With an orchestra that shook the stage, Setzer used two upright bass players at one point in the show, featuring the acrobatics of opening band Firebird Trio's Chris Nomad standing on his bass.
Setzer roused the sold-out room with "Rock This Town" and mixed big band swing and sassy guitar-driven rockabilly, proving he's still got the licks sharp on his Gretsch guitar.
"Merry Christmas," he said, finishing the show with plenty of revved up Christmas favorites and a few from his Stray Cats past.
