Many people perceive conservatives to be the heartless rich who are unwilling to help those who are truly in need. On the contrary, in the more conservative parts of the country, folks give a higher percentage of their income to charity than do their liberal counterparts. There's a difference between the liberal and conservative philosophies toward giving to the needy. Liberals look to the government as the ideal source for forced giving while conservatives know that churches and charities do a better job of vetting who's truly needy and give accordingly.
Conservatives have been sickened by the generations of welfare recipients who play the government welfare programs like a violin. The “War on Poverty” started under President Lyndon Johnson in the 1960s. If it truly is a war, we need to retreat and declare the enemy the winner.
