Motorists trying to navigate around a road construction project on Danforth Road in northwest Oklahoma City will have to wait several months for the roadway to reopen.
The eastern portion of Danforth between May and Portland avenues has been closed since May 28. The targeted completion date is March 1.
The project affects residents in The Grove neighborhood and those visiting or attending Grove Valley Elementary School. The elementary school in the Deer Creek School District is on the south side of Danforth, about 100 yards from an entrance to The Grove. The roadway is closed from just past the entrance to the neighborhood to May.
Motorists trying to access the school or the neighborhood now must travel east on Danforth from Portland to do so.
City officials said the $2 million construction project will widen the roadway from two to four lanes, add sidewalks, relocate or build storm drains and relocate water lines.
The project, which is being paid for out of the 2007 general obligation bond, is roughly 20 percent complete, officials said.
