RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The N.C. Department of Transportation is suspending most construction projects along most interstate, North Carolina and U.S. routes through Jan. 6 as motorists begin their Christmas travel.

In Raleigh, two lanes of the I-40 West ramp onto I-440 West is still down to one lane and I-440 West is two lanes from I-40 toward U.S. 64/264 as a part of the Fortify project.

Bridge work will affect traffic on U.S. 158 in Elizabeth City, while the Wright Memorial Bridge on U.S. 158 West is closed for deck repair. All traffic will use the eastbound bridge.

Bridge construction also affects U.S. 1 north of Aberdeen and U.S. 13 north of Windsor.

I-73 in Greensboro is down to two lanes in each direction between I-40 and I-85 to build a new interchange.
