Consumers in Oklahoma and elsewhere are urged to keep it local on Small Business Saturday
This Saturday, shoppers in Oklahoma and nationwide are encouraged to spend some of their holiday shopping dollars at a small business. American Express card holders can receive a $25 credit when they spend $25 or more.
A day after the frenzied all-night shopping spree at big box stores for Black Friday, locally owned shops will host their own shopping day during the third annual Small Business Saturday.

Created by American Express, the event encourages consumers to spend some of their dollars at small businesses in their community.
Those who register their American Express credit card before Saturday can receive a $25 credit on their statement when they spend $25 or more that day at a small business. Qualifying businesses include shops, restaurants and others.
Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday is a way to route some of the financial pie to small businesses during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year. Last year, more than 100 million people participated, according to American Express.
Small-business owners say they often can't compete with the low door-buster prices offered by national retailers, but they can still give their customers something extra.
“We might not have these rock-bottom, trample-over-your-neighbor prices, but we know you by name,” said Morgan Harris, owner of the Green Bambino at 5120 N Shartel.
