Continental Resources' Harold Hamm confirms divorce proceedings

The confirmation came as wire service Reuters reported details of the divorce filing, which has been sealed by Oklahoma County Special District Judge Howard Haralson.

Hamm, 67, who chaired the energy advisory committee for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, made the latest Forbes list of the world's richest people. The magazine put Hamm's estimated net worth at $11.3 billion, ranking him at No. 90.

The Hamms married in Las Vegas in 1988. In a short statement, Harold Hamm confirmed the divorce filing and said the matter was private.

“As they work through the process, Mr. Hamm is requesting privacy for the sake of his family and children,” the statement said. “The court has issued a confidentiality order and he wishes to honor that order.”

In a separate statement, Continental said the divorce proceeding “has not and is not anticipated to have any impact or effect on the company's business or operations.”

Oklahoma County court records show the divorce petition was filed under seal May 18 with “Jane Doe” as the plaintiff.
