TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Officials say a contractor fell to his death from a catwalk at an old Tampa Bay area power plant.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reports that 31-year-old Bryan Hagan was working at the Tampa Electric Co. power plant Monday afternoon when he fell through a metal grate and dropped more than 40 feet. Officials say he died at the scene.

A TECO spokeswoman says the plant had previously been converted from coal to natural gas power generation, and workers were dismantling an old boiler that was no longer needed.

Hagan was an employee of Southeastern Construction and Maintenance. An after-hours message left with the company by The Associated Press wasn't immediately returned.
