COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — A new exhibit opening at a Cooperstown museum features rare artifacts, artwork, photographs and clothing linked to New York's contributions during the Civil War.
The exhibit — titled "On the Home Front: New York in the Civil War" — opens Saturday at the Fenimore Art Museum and runs through Dec. 31.
No battles were fought in New York during the war, but the Empire State contributed the most men and supplies to the Union effort. The museum's curators say the conflict was reflected in all aspects of everyday life in upstate New York.
The Civil War is also the focus of the museum's second annual Americana Symposium. The event being held Sept. 29 will include presentations by leading scholars and experts on American history, art and culture.
