Cornell's homer leads Oklahoma State past Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Aaron Cornell hit a 3-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to help top seed Oklahoma State defeat Oklahoma 11-8 in the Big 12 tournament Friday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Sheldon Neuse had four hits for No. 8 seed Oklahoma (29-29), which was eliminated.

Oklahoma led 6-3, but Oklahoma State (43-15) scored on an error and a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning to cut Oklahoma's lead to 6-5, then tied the game on a single by Donnie Walton. The Cowboys finally took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Conor Costello.

Oklahoma State's Bryan Case hit a solo homer in the top of the seventh with two outs to push the advantage to 8-6.

The Sooners tied it at 8 in the bottom of the seventh, but Cornell's blast put Oklahoma State up for good. Brendan McCurry earned his 17th save for the Cowboys.
