Just learned that within the month Battered Boar will release a beer you won’t want to miss:
Say hello to Dante’s Porter. It’s a pro-am collaboration between Battered Boar brewmaster Mike Sandefur and homebrewer John Elkins that will be released in 22 oz. bombers, maybe as soon as the next couple weeks.
It’s hard for me to put into words how excited I am about this beer. I tried a test batch version of this earlier this year, and I would stack it up with any pepper beer — commercial or homebrewed — that I’ve tried.
And as someone who has been experimenting with various homebrew pepper beer recipes over the past couple years, I’ve tried a lot of combinations.
For Dante, Battered Boar used poblano and serrano peppers in the mash, New Mexico-grown Anaheim peppers and poblano in primary fermentation, and serrano and habanero peppers for heat to finish in the secondary.
Sandefur hesitated to heap too much praise on the beer, but he hinted it may be one of the best Battered Boar has come out with.
I’ll say this: If you’re a fan of pepper beers, you will not want to pass on this one.
