City council approves additional $9 million for MAPS 3 sidewalks

The #OKC City Council has approved adding $9 million to complete more of the MAPS 3 sidewalks.

The city expects to complete close to 60 miles of sidewalks with the additional money, MAPS program manager David Todd said last week at a meeting of the MAPS 3 Citizens Advisory Board.

Voters were assured they would get more than 70 miles of new sidewalks when they approved the 1-cent MAPS 3 sales tax in 2009.

Recent estimates showed the city would only be able to build about 30 miles for the original $9.2 million.

Funds will be drawn from unspent reserves that built up as tax collections exceeded projections.
