County commissioners split on OU-Texas site
A motion by Cleveland County Commissioner Rod Cleveland for a resolution to support a home-and-home OU-Texas football series did not receive a second.
NORMAN — Cleveland County Commissioner Rod Cleveland said Monday that the University of Oklahoma-University of Texas football game should become a home-and-home series, but his two colleagues answered his resolution proposal with silence.
Neither George Skinner nor Rusty Sullivan seconded Cleveland's motion for the board of commissioners to pass a resolution in support of OU playing its home games against Texas in Norman, and they made no comment on the matter.
Cleveland said he brought up the subject this week because of the OU-Texas game this Saturday.
"This is not made to ruffle feathers," Cleveland said, "but is in support of businesses in Cleveland County."
The commissioner said he had talked with business owners on Campus Corner and with hotel operators who all say the OU-Texas game would be a big lift for their businesses and the Norman-area economy.
Cleveland said he also wants a Cleveland County representative included in the next round of discussions of where to play the game.
