Courtney Gardner will not attend Oklahoma

by Stephanie Kuzydym Published: November 4, 2012

Oklahoma recruit Courtney Gardner announced via Twitter on Sunday that he will not run across Owen Field next year.

Although Gardner’s Twitter background remains a photo of him and Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, he will skip another year in college football and attempt to go pro.

Before Sunday night’s announcement, Gardner was supposed to enroll at Oklahoma in January. He would have two seasons of eligibility since he didn’t play football this fall. Last year with Sierra, though, the wide receiver totaled 1,099 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns.

In Oklahoma’s win on Saturday to Iowa State, quarterback Landry Jones threw to nine different receivers.

As The Oklahoman’s preps reporter Ryan Aber wrote earlier this month:

“If Kenny Stills stays at Oklahoma for his senior season, the Sooners will only lose senior Justin Brown from this year’s deep receiver corps.

“The Sooners have two wide receiver commits already in Austin Bennett and Jenks’ Jordan Smallwood.”
