Mike Gundy remembers taking his Oklahoma State squad between the hedges at Georgia Stadium two years ago. And he remembers the atmosphere as the Cowboys suffered a season-opening loss to the SEC school.
This year, Gundy plans to return the favor. And he knows Oklahoma State fans could be the key when the Cowboys host Georgia on Sept. 5 in OSU’s 2009 season opener. On Friday night, Gundy implored Cowboy fans to make it an afternoon Georgia will never forget during the OSU Cowboy Caravan at the Cox Convention Center. "When they come here, we want them to experience a game day as good or better than the SEC,” Gundy told the crowd. "So when they leave here they say, ‘Boy, is there anybody there who didn’t have orange on?” It will be the unveiling of a new stadium, new team and increased expectations that September afternoon, all of which have OSU fans excited about what the future may hold for the Cowboys. "I think it’s going to catch Georgia completely off guard,” said Dana Cramer of Norman. "(Both) the atmosphere and the caliber of play the Cowboys are going to come out with that day.” Even OSU fans who experienced the SEC atmosphere at Georgia first-hand feel like the atmosphere at Boone Pickens Stadium will surprise. "We went to Georgia two years ago and I think they’ll be impressed with our atmosphere,” said Eddy Ditzler of Edmond.
