Bankers aren’t usually guys you figure to be the life of the party. But then you’ve probably never met Javier Gamarra or Greg Buchanan. The two Tulsa bankers have been leading the tailgating charge between Hester and Knoblock for years, evolving from buddies sipping suds out of a van (NOT down by the river) to a full-fledged, theme-churning, pork-butt chewing, rib-gnawing, lip-smacking good time that has become the self-proclaimed tailgate of ex-OSU quarterback Zac Robinson, whose parents are often in attendance.

They stake half a dozen or more tents on the south side of Bartlett Hall, where as the day progresses toward kickoff they will hear the band strike up and watch them prepare for their march toward the stadium as anywhere from 75 to 100 orange-clad friends and family from Tulsa, Muskogee, Edmond and Oklahoma converge to invoke the spirit of Pistol Pete while imbibing in the spirit of barley and hops.

Now the tailgate has extended into another generation, as their kids now attend OSU and help set up the tailgate the night before games.

"The kids help us out, but they’ve taken our old spot on the other side of Bartlett," Gamarra said. "But they always end up over here to eat."

And after their beer runs out.
