Texas took a small step forward, jumping from third to second place, ahead of Alabama and behind Florida.

The remaining unbeaten teams held down the first seven spots.

Oklahoma moved into the rankings at 24th after beating Kansas State 42-30.

The Crimson Tide and Gators, if they both remain undefeated, will have to play each other in the Southeastern Conference title game.

Alabama faces a stiff test Saturday when LSU travels to Tuscaloosa.

TCU holds a slim lead over Boise State in the race to be this season’s BCS buster. Both teams had lopsided victories on Saturday.
