A 10-win season was accomplished at the Holiday Bowl Tuesday night at Qualcomm Stadium, but it wasn't Oklahoma State celebrating the achievement.

With a second-half performance lacking in all areas, the No. 13 Cowboys couldn't add to one of the most successful seasons in school history with a 42-31 loss to No. 17 Oregon

"They were much more physical than us in the second half and we just weren't able to overcome that," OSU coach Mike Gundy said.

OSU finishes the season at 9-4, with three of the losses to teams that were ranked in the top three in the nation at the time OSU played them.

Though a win Tuesday night could have been a springboard to a strong offseason, Gundy believes the loss might provide equal motivation.

"We faced some adversity and it's very important how we respond to it," he said. "There will be a lot of excitement in the offseason and I expect us to have a good offseason and get better."

Louis, time to stop obsessing over OSU and worry about your own teams bowl problems. The only loser would be you, moron.

Agreed - defense needs to be a MAJOR emphasis! The tackling was - well - I have no word to describe it!!! I don't agree with the "giving up" assessment. HOWEVER, when Dez went down it did appear like the team went into a "Oh no, now what?" mode. We can't focus our WHOLE offense around Dez. What about Damien Davis? Josh Cooper? Pettegrew? There ARE other qualified receivers on this team! USE THEM! Don't just depend on Dez!!!

I'VE WATCHED THE TAPE OF THE HOLIDAY BOWL 3 TIMES AND THERE WEREN'T ANY SURPRISES. THE COWBOYS DON'T HAVE ANYTHING THAT EVEN RESEMBLES A DEFENSE. QUINTON MOORE GAVE UP 2 TD'S WHEN OREGON BALL CARRIERS RAN OVER HIM TWICE. JACOB LACEY GAVE UP A COUPLE OF TD'S. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT MOORE, LACEY AND PRICE WON'T BE BACK NEXT YEAR. WHAT SCARES ME IS THAT THESE GUYS ARE THE BEST WE HAVE, I GUESS!

Danny in Vail, we hit OU pretty well. Didn't win. But ask Sam if we hit.

Jim, what is Daznny? Oh yeah, and ESAD.

Daznny...you are right..we need to put people away when we have the chance. Louis...you are about as low a bottom feeder as there is in the world...you sound like you're in elmentary school with your constant "Na na na na na" tripe. What a joke you are...why don't you try growing up and being "someone" instead of "something?"

I am not normally a Cowboys fan but I do pull for them when they are not playing the Sooners. What I saw was a team that gave up. They played strong and looked good enough to win until they fell behind. They seemed like their spirit was broken. Its the same way they looked in the second half against OU. Better luck next year. Remember Gundy is "a man." Now lets all look forward to seeing the MIGHTY SOONERS win in Miami. BOOMER SOONER!!!!

Funny how OSUcks strives to just reach the 10 win plateau and OU sees anything less than 11 wins as a bad season.
Louis Friend, Norman - Dec 31, 2008 at 7:43 am
Better get a defensive coordinator that knows how to teach the team how to tackle and hit.
I've never seen a Cowboy team in a long time that knows how to hit and tackle. Not since Bob Simmons have the Cowboys been able to hit.

OSU needs more depth, that's for sure.

The Cowboys had a chance to put Oregon away early and take them mentally out of the game, but allowed the Ducks to stick around and now we have the results.
