It’s no surprise that Oklahoma State lost a lot from its 2013 team. The Cowboys were a senior-laden squad, particularly on the defensive side.
How experienced were the Cowboys? So much that they have the smallest percentage of lettermen returning of any team in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
College football writer Phil Steele calculated “lettermen percentage,” where he took the number of lettermen returning and divided it by the number of total lettermen a school had in the 2013 season. The results show that OSU lost a whopping 32 of 70 lettermen from the 2013 team, which means only 54.29 percent of lettermen are back for 2014. You can view the entire list here.

And the bottom five.
For comparisons sake, OSU brings back 38 lettermen to defending national champion Florida State’s 40, but the Seminoles only lettered 61 players to OSU’s 70. Oklahoma is bringing back 48 letter winners from 2013.
Last week, John Helsley wrote about OSU’s inexperience on defense. The defense, which leaned heavily on veteran play and leadership a year ago, has gotten significantly younger.
