STILLWATER — It strikes fear in the hearts of college football coaches around the nation — and we’re not talking about Tim Tebow’s toughness, Colt McCoy’s savvy or Julio Jones’ game-breaking ability.

The flu bug is making coaches sick, even when they don’t have it themselves.

And it’s become a big concern for college football coaches, including Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy.

"It’s a scary situation,” the Pokes’ fifth-year coach said. "As much as we are together as coaches and players, we worry about that.”

OSU has put hand sanitizer in various places around its facilities, including all the meeting rooms, the locker room and weight room. Players are required to use it and hydrate themselves with Gatorade daily.

OSU players must shower before they leave the facility after practice each day and are encouraged to bathe thoroughly and often.

For the football squad, there is reason for concern. Not only are the 105-plus people involved with the program around each other all the time, OSU had a few confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus, commonly known as the Swine flu, amongst its student body in late August.
