Cox Communications is undergoing an organizational shift that will move technical support jobs based at its Oklahoma City office at NW 122 and Pennsylvania office out of state, spokeswoman Christine Martin said Friday.

Call center workers in Oklahoma City learned this week that the Atlanta-based phone, Internet and cable TV provider would move technical support jobs out of state to one of seven Cox Centers of Excellence around the country, Martin said.

Oklahoma City will become a center of Cox sales-related positions, she said. Cox plans to add about 300 sales positions to Oklahoma as part of the shift, Martin said.

The company on Friday could not provide the number of jobs that would leave Oklahoma City as part of the reorganization, Martin said. Cox has about 2,000 employees in Oklahoma, she said.

“The overall number of employees is going up,” Martin said.

The technical support jobs are being relocated to other Cox centers in May, and the company gave workers 60 days’ notice of the shift, Martin said. Workers are being given the option to relocate from Oklahoma City to other Cox centers with up to $15,000 in relocation assistance from the company, she said.

Cox maintains a roughly 80,000 square-foot call center and training facility at the Camelot Square Center.

The Oklahoma Department of Commerce said Friday it had not been notified by the company of any job cuts at the Cox call center.
