A crackdown on prostitution along S Robinson Avenue netted at least a dozen arrests, Oklahoma City police reported Friday.
Undercover officers conducted the sting Thursday during day and night hours, police Capt. Dexter Nelson said. Officers worked the area between SW 29 and SW 44.
One 17-year-old female was arrested along with at least a dozen adults, Nelson said. He said the operation was ongoing Friday and the final number of arrests wasn't known yet.
Both prostitutes and customers were arrested in the roundup on complaints of offering to engage in acts of prostitution and were taken to the Oklahoma County jail.
Nelson said complaints about prostitutes and customers along S Robinson are investigated frequently and undercover officers will continue to work the area posing as both prostitutes and “johns” or customers.
Theresa Briscoe, a former prostitute who now ministers to other women on the streets, said she continues to reach out to women along S Robinson. She saw 15 to 30 prostitutes working the area Wednesday, she said.
Briscoe tries to convince prostitutes to leave the lifestyle and find other ways to make a living. She said she has convinced one woman to stop working as a prostitute so far this year.
“I will continue to go down there and preach about Jesus and take them to a brand-new life,” Briscoe said.
