Crashes on Oklahoma roads killed two people Friday afternoon.

Dead are:

Sally Luverne Whan, 69, Lawton

Whan was killed Friday afternoon when her sport utility vehicle ran off the H.E. Bailey Turnpike in Cotton County and struck a bridge support.

She was dead at the scene of the crash shortly before 3:30 p.m. at mile marker 9.7 on the turnpike, Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers said.

Whan was southbound when her SUV ran off the roadway for an unknown reason and traveled 464 feet before vaulting 45 feet and hitting the bridge support, according to the patrol report. She was pinned nearly an hour before being freed by the Randlett Fire Department.

She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to the patrol report.

Susan Proffitt, 39, Oakwood

Proffitt was killed after a Mack truck crossed the centerline and hit the car she was driving head-on Friday on U.S. 270, troopers said.

Proffitt was dead at the scene of the crash about 3:50 p.m. 11 miles southeast of Seiling.

She was pinned for two hours before being freed by the Seiling Fire Department.

A passenger in the car was taken to the hospital with head and leg injuries. The driver of the truck was treated and released at a hospital, troopers said.
