Crews continue watching for Oklahoma City wildfire flare-ups
Firefighters continue to watch for flare-ups while the cause of the wildfire that started Tuesday has not been determined.
Firefighters continued to watch on Friday for flare-ups or hot spots that could rekindle across a 4,000-acre area of northeast Oklahoma City that was burned by wildfire this week.
The cause and exact location of the blaze that started about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday have not been determined, said fire Deputy Chief Marc Woodard.
Woodard took a helicopter tour of the area and said it appears to have started in a wooded area south of NE 50 and east of Sooner Road, between Sooner and west of Midwest Boulevard.
The wildfire burned in an 18-square mile area and destroyed dozens of homes, a church and some outbuildings.
Fire Battalion Chief Kirk Wright said six brush pumpers were in the area Friday morning to respond to any reported flare-ups. All roads in the area have been opened and homeowners were allowed to return to their properties.
