Crews review tornadoes; damage in Oklahoma City

Some businesses along Northwest Expressway were up and running again Wednesday, while others in the path of Tuesday’s tornado were facing weeks if not months of rebuilding.

Insurance adjusters, contractors and managers converged at restaurants Wednesday morning.

Plywood covered broken windows and holes in buildings just east of N Rockwell Avenue. At least a dozen businesses had damage.

Oklahoma City Fire District Chief Brian Stanaland said there was at least $1 million damage to the immediate area around Chuck E. Cheese’s, one of the worst-hit businesses.

Stanaland said Boulder Ridge Apartments at NW 84 and Candlewood Drive had about $100,000 damage to the roof.

Damage to nearby homes consisted primarily of torn-off shingles and uprooted trees.

Kathy Strain, facilities manager from the Texas headquarters of Chuck E. Cheese’s, arrived Wednesday morning at the restaurant at 6817 Northwest Expressway.

Contractor John Jeffreys of Dallas-based Parkway Construction said the restaurant will likely be closed three to four weeks.

The re-opening of a Target at 8315 Northwest Expressway was less certain.

Other damaged restaurants include Fazoli’s at 6821 Northwest Expressway and El Chico at 6801 Northwest Expressway.
