Former Mustang sports coordinator faces charges

EL RENO — A former Mustang city employee was charged with one felony and seven misdemeanor counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

Dennis Franklin Qualls, 40, was charged Oct. 27 in Canadian County District Court. A city employee told police he suspected a Parks and Recreation department employee was overcharging athletic associations for renting the fields and using ground crews, according to a court affidavit. According to the affidavit, Qualls is accused of obtaining $2,068 by fraud from the Amateur Softball Association of America and Triple Crown Sports. According to the affidavit, Qualls admitted depositing checks into his personal bank account. Qualls was released Monday on $9,500 bail. According to the affidavit, the incidents took place from May 2008 to July 11. Qualls was terminated July 15 as the city’s sports coordinator.
