Hello, and welcome to the latest incarnation of “The Beat,” a blog I started as an Oklahoman crime reporter.

After two years chronicling violent and unexpected death that happens every day here, I’ve moved to a new beat, enterprise, a beat of hard-edged news features. My subject matter: the world.

It’s a little intimidating.

While I’ll be skipping around as news cycles turn over, I’d like to keep an eye criminal justice, an important, and troubled and rich subject area in this state. We have the highest incarceration rate of women in the world. How did this happen?

Social justice is another area of focus. For example, I’ve learned 13 homeless died on our streets last year. How? Why? Who were they?

I have a lot of questions, more questions than answers. I hope to shed light on them. Thanks for following along.
