Edmond North cross country coach Kent Douglas knew he was asking a lot of his runners to go down to Texas and compete with some talented big-school programs in the Dallas area.
But it looks like the trip was worthwhile. Edmond North's girls team finished ninth and the boys 21st in a loaded field at Southlake Carroll on Saturday, but more importantly, they responded with wins after returning home.
Both teams claimed individual and overall titles at the Putnam City North Invitational Tuesday at Woodson Park.
Jaci Smith, who finished sixth in Texas, was the overall winner with Jenny Mehner and Emma Ledbetter second and third. All seven North girls finished in the top 13.
For the boys, Blake Crouch won the individual event as the Huskies totaled just 47 points for the win.
“When you go to places like Southlake Carroll, you're seeing some outstanding runners,” Douglas said. “It was good for us. We competed hard against a tough field. Tuesday was a recovery day. We were able to get our confidence back, and we did a good job.”
