Norman headed to unique event
Norman’s cross country teams will compete in the 25th annual Greenhills Rock and Roll Relays on Saturday at Nordic Park in Dallas.
The meet is unlike most any other as there are as many as 3,000 runners competing. What’s more, the runners have to negotiate unusual obstacles on the course.
"The kids have to run over bales of hay — some of which are as tall as me,” said Norman girls cross country coach Suzy Rojas
. "And there are live bands playing the whole time. In some places, fans are standing 10-people deep. It’s not like anything the kids have ever seen. They’re going to just love it.”
Norman has one of the state’s best runners in sophomore Megan Johnson
, who was All-State in cross country last year and won the Class 6A state title in the 3,200 meters.
McGuinness girls strong as ever
Bishop McGuinness’ long run of dominating girls cross country teams appears to be charging along. The Irish girls clobbered everyone at the Southern Nazarene Preseason Challenge, including Class 6A Broken Arrow, which was runner-up.
