BETHANY — Clients of The Daily Living Center will come together with friends and loved ones to celebrate life with a symbolic spring event.
With four locations in Oklahoma, The Daily Living Centers provide adult health care six days a week for clients with chronic physical and mental impairments.
Last spring, members of the center made wishes and sent balloons into the sky. This year, they will release butterflies that came to the center a month ago as caterpillars.
About 25 caterpillars came to The Daily Living Centers location in Bethany before beginning their monthlong metamorphosis and turning into butterflies, said Pam Timmons, vice president of development.
“This is about celebrating the stages and cycles of life,” Timmons said. “Something we are all familiar with.”
The spring event titled “Celebrating Healthy Living,” will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at 3000 N Rockwell. The center and its clients welcome the public to join them.
Timmons will read a poem called “Butterfly Indian Legend” and University of Oklahoma student volunteers will assist Daily Living Centers clients as they plant flowers.
Daily Living Centers client Estelle Chappell, 69, said she is excited to see the butterflies she helped care for fly away, but the thought also makes her a little sad.
