OFFENSE

QB

9 Tony Romo;6-2;228

18 Kyle Orton;6-4;225

Quarterback analysis: Romo has a better career quarterback rating (96.9) than Tom Brady (96.4) and Peyton Manning (94.9). Romo owns several franchise passing records and is 47-30 as a starter. He has a solid career 2-to-1 TD-to-interception ratio. But until he improves on a 9-18 record in games after Dec. 1 he will face criticism for late-season meltdowns. Orton, 35-34 as a starter, is a quality backup.

RB

29 DeMarco Murray;6-0;227

28 Felix Jones;5-10;217

FB

47 Lawrence Vickers;6-0;250

Running back analysis: Murray was on pace to shatter Tony Dorsett's single-season rookie rushing record before suffering a fractured ankle on Dec. 11. Murray also is a big-play threat as a receiver out of the backfield. Jones, who lost his starting job to Murray, has more career fumbles (10) than TDs (8) but is a quality No. 2 back.

TE

82 Jason Witten;6-6;265

89 John Phillips;6-5;261

WR

88 Dez Bryant;6-2;218

85 Kevin Ogletree;6-1;190

15 Andre Holmes;6-5;208

WR

19 Miles Austin;6-2;215

17 Dwayne Harris;5-10;208

11 Cole Beasley;5-8;177

Receivers analysis: Bryant, Austin and Witten are a formidable trio if they're healthy. Bryant, also in the news for off-field issues, has 17 TDs his first two seasons but has missed five games. Austin has 26 TDs the past three years but missed six games last season. Witten has a lacerated spleen and is questionable for Wednesday's season opener.

LT

77 Tyron Smith;6-5;311

78 Jeremy Parnell;6-6;305

LG

71 Nate Livings;6-5;332

76 Derrick Dockery;6-6;325

C

67 Phil Costa;6-3;315

63 Ryan Cook;6-6;325

RG

73 Mackenzy Bernadeau;6-4;308

62 David Arkin;6-5;310

RT

68 Doug Free;6-6;323

78 Jeremy Parnell;6-6;305

Offensive line analysis: A problem area last year, the Cowboys signed two free agents (Livings and Bernadeau) and traded for Cook who provides depth. How the new-look O-line plays is a key variable for an offense loaded with dynamic weapons. Romo once again will have to improvise if the line isn't noticeably improved under former Nebraska coach Bill Callahan.
