1. The Dirty T-Shirt

By: Jennifer Leet – “I am married with three children, in the core age ranges of toddlers and teens. I had home schooled my son (who has since graduated from high school) and my older daughter (who will be starting 8th grade this month), with the help of Florida Virtual Academy.”

What blog is about – Forging friendships, one brand at a time. Product reviews.

Featured post – Potential Foods That can Trigger Migraines, Review and Giveaway – “One thing that I tend to overlook is what I eat. There are many foods that can trigger a migraine”

You would not believe how much you change every day even though you think you don’t change. I have had migraines my whole life, and when I get them, I try so hard to figure what I did that might have caused them. I start writing things down, and when I look at everything I did or ate, I think, ‘Who am I and where is the real me?’ This post is awesome. I had a headache five days of last week. I finally went to the doctor, and I had a sinus infection. But I also was seeing spots and auras around objects and people, my neck was so stiff and I was nauseated, which are all symptoms of a migraine. I just could not believe when I read this that I had eaten quite a few of the triggers I normally do not eat! I knew about soda, chocolate, aspartame and MSG, but I did not know about pears, aged cheese and nuts, all of which I ate last week, and I almost never eat those things!  Amazing.Darla Lindauer

2. Cake Wrecks

By: Could be Jen, John, Sharyn and Lindsey. This one is posted by Jen – “Jen started this blog in May of 2008 one night when she was bored. She honestly never thought anyone would read it. She’s also not very good at picking lottery numbers.

What blog is about – As the name says, cake wrecks. Some are quite cool really, to me anyway.

Featured post – The Letter of the Flaw – It’s ”about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.”

It is amazing how things can go so wrong with such simple instructions. I think the person reading the instructions could have used some common sense. If you have to ask why would they want me to do that, call and verify! Then again, maybe that is me. I am in the business of data, and I teach this as the No. 1 rule in data collection and research: If it sounds funny, always verify. Of course, if they had verified, I wouldn’t be laughing right now and I couldn’t share it with you! I do like the addition of Jean-Luc Picard. I am such a Star Trek geek! Have fun! – Darla Lindauer

3. Bad Astronomy

By: Phil Plait – The creator of Bad Astronomy, Plait is an astronomer, lecturer and author. After 10 years working on Hubble Space Telescope data and six more working on astronomy education, he struck out on his own as a writer.

What blog is about – Everything astronomy

Featured post – What Happens When You Wring out a Washcloth in Space? – “The only way to experience weightlessness naturally is to jump off a high place, and that has two disadvantages; one is that it doesn’t last long, and the second is that it generally doesn’t end well.”

This video is so awesome! I thought for sure this was one of those videos where something cool goes very wrong like so many other videos are these days. Why do humans find it so funny when something goes wrong or someone falls? I am not sure that will ever be answered. I never knew just plain water was so complex. I have a few questions though. 1. Why does the water not continue to go up? I guess another question is which way is up in space? 2. After they drink the water, how come it does not try to come back up their throat? Again, which way is up? Weird but very interesting and cool!  – Darla Lindauer

4. A Slob Comes Clean

By: Dana White – “Can a slob ever change? Well, I am one . . . and I’m doing it. Join me to be entertained, inspired, and informed by the real-life progress of a real-life slob.”

What blog is about – A complete and honest account of her deslobification journey.

Featured post – Reality-Based Green Cleaning – “Am I a supporter/advocate/lover of chemical-free, totally natural, wouldn’t-hurt-you-to-lick-’em cleaning products?”

I laughed a bit reading this post. I think we all, somewhere inside us, want to be all green. But why is it so hard? I have thought about making my own soap. I have thought about a lot of things, but the truth is, these things take time, and I do not have much of that precious commodity in my life. Time also does not fit well in my mind of organization and efficiency. With that said though, I am going to try and transition myself into a more green way of living starting with a small garden this year. I do use a magic eraser and, guess what, I looked it up and it is not toxic, but it is not eco-friendly either. That, simply put, is that it has chemicals, but it does not release any fumes. Well, it is a start, I think. I use it mostly because I hate the smell of cleaning products!Darla Lindauer

5. *Clean* Funny Pics

By – Shelley – “I was southern born and southern bred. When I die, I’ll be Southern dead. I grew up on God, guns, hard work, never telling lies, helping your fellow man and LOTS LOTS LOTS of humor. Did I mention the humor?”

What blog is about – Clean, funny pics.

Featured post – Things I Learned From My Mother – “My mother taught me about RECEIVING, You are going to get it when we get home!”

For those of you who are forgetful, Mother’s Day is coming up on May 12. I thought this was so funny, but I am pretty sure this goes for mothers and fathers! As I was reading this, I was pulled back in time when I was a little girl hearing my mother say these things to me. I could see her clothes, classic 70s look (even though it was the 80s), her face and how serious she was, and I remember thinking the same thing I did back then but did not dare say! It does not make sense! Imagine back when your mother, father or grandparent said these things and you stepped up and tried to point out how incorrect the saying was? Whew! Even thinking about talking back to momma is scary! These things don’t go over well in my house. I have tried to use a few of these, but my daughter has Aspergers and she thinks only literal and she corrects me when I am wrong. I then tried to use them on my younger daughter, and guess what? Yes, my older daughter steps in and tells me it makes no sense and explains to my 3-year-old why it is not true. I don’t get to have any fun! – Darla Lindauer

6. Browbeat

By: June Thomas – Slate culture critic, television addict, currently guesting on the Culture Gabfest.

What blog is about – Culture, reviews on television shows

Featured post – The Moment, USA Makes Reality Show with “Christian Values” -

I am not sure how the “Christian Values” works into this show, except that, so far, there has been no cussing or clothing taken off. I do love the concept of the show, though. From the first time I saw the commercial, I knew it would strike an emotion in people and maybe even cause a little fantasy thinking of “what if” I had become… I know my first thought went to a conversation I had with a friend of mine, Mike. He likes the job he has and  is highly respected in his field, but he always wanted to be a Marine. I remember when he told me, I could hear the emotion in his words and I wanted it for him. But, for him, like so many others, “life” had different plans. I think it is funny how the word “life” is used instead of using the word “decisions,” like life is some magical thing that plans out our fate. As for me, I love my job, and I always wanted to be a mommy, and I am. So, my dream has come true already. It is nice to see people’s dreams come true, but with the economy the way it is, maybe they should do a reality show on “Let me help you get any job” and help those who don’t currently have one and really want one. Just a thought. – Darla Lindauer

7.  DIY tips & ideas, to make fixing things easy

By: This blog is run by many different contributors, but this post is by Jeff Linderman. – For 25 years, Jeff owned and operated a successful commercial and residential landscaping business. He couldn’t afford the extensive downtime that came when he brought his equipment to be repaired at overloaded small engine repair shops. Instead, Jeff learned how to complete the repairs on his own.

What blog is about – This blog gives tips and tricks on just about anything you can repair.

Featured post – What to do if your lawn mower won’t start – “When you dust off your mower, push it into the springtime sun. You can nearly smell the freshly mowed lawn. But if you’re like us, every once and a while, you’ll find that the engine won’t start.”

The title of the post and wanting to share with everyone the information got me to read on. This is great, and it even has videos to help me. I think this site is just one step above me on the knowledge level, though. I think they assume you check the gas first. Last year, I could have sworn I put gas in the lawn mower, and I fought with the dang thing for a while until I finally realized I had only bought the gas, not put it in. Yes, I felt dumb and, no, this post wouldn’t have helped me then, but it is a good read. This site is a good keeper for those ambitious enough to “DIY” (do it yourself). If you are like me, I have a million projects going on in my head, but they seem to stay there. I think this site might inspire me to let a few out!  Darla Lindauer
