STILLWATER (AP) — The Oklahoma medical examiner's office says a man who died of a gunshot wound to the head following a traffic stop in Payne County killed himself.

The Stillwater NewsPress reports that a spokesman for the medical examiner says 27-year-old Craig Blakely of Cushing was not hit by gunfire from a deputy who shot out the tires of Blakely's pickup truck.

Blakely was killed Sept. 4 after he had refused to stop for a deputy for a traffic violation near Perkins.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says a deputy shot out the truck's tires as the truck moved toward him at a roadblock. When the truck stopped — Blakely was found inside with a gunshot wound to the head and a gun was found in the vehicle.
