DURANT — Authorities arrested a man Tuesday in connection with the death of a man found near a creek outside Durant.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents arrested Raymond Stewart, 26, on a complaint of murder after interviewing him at the Durant police station. He was booked into Bryan County jail Tuesday afternoon.
An unidentified body was found Monday afternoon near a creek three miles east of Durant. The Bryan County sheriff’s office requested help from OSBI investigators after discovering the body.
OSBI spokeswoman Jessica Brown did not say what led investigators to interview Stewart on Tuesday.
Brown said Stewart claims he did not know the victim.
Investigators believe Stewart met the man at a Durant bar Friday night and again Saturday in a separate location. Brown said investigators believe Stewart then killed the man and dumped his body near the creek.
Investigators are using a fingerprint-recognition system to try to identify the victim, Brown said. He was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Oklahoma City for an autopsy.
