TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — Toyota Motor Corp. said Friday that its U.S. sales fell 1.7 percent from a year ago as demand for its cars weakened. Sales of the Prius hybrid were down 22 percent to 15,720 as gas prices stabilized and customers sprung for larger and less efficient models.
BY THE NUMBERS: Toyota, whose U.S. division is based in Torrance, Calif., sold 190,843 vehicles last month, down from 194,143 in the same month a year ago.
TOP SELLERS: Toyota sold 29,964 Camry midsize cars, down 4.6 percent from a year ago. The company sold 22,562 Corolla small cars, down 8.6 percent.
HOT MODELS: Lexus IS sales more than doubled to 5,414. RAV4 SUV sales rose 46 percent to 20,970.
