The Deer Creek School Board this week voted to approve a school redistricting plan that could see hundreds of students changing elementary schools.

The biggest changes would involve students from Grove Valley Elementary School moving to Prairie Vale Elementary School and those from Deer Creek and Rose Union elementary schools switching to the new Spring Creek Elementary School.

The board formed a committee in September and tasked it with finding a way to reorganize students to accommodate Spring Creek's construction.

The school is scheduled to open in the fall near NW 150 and Rockwell Avenue. It will be home to 375 students, according to estimates from the school board.

The committee presented proposed redistricting plans to the school board in January and held two public forums in which parents expressed concerns about transportation and student relocation.

The board approved the plan at its Monday night meeting by a 4-1 vote, with board member John Robertson casting the only no vote.

Spring Creek will consist of students from Deer Creek and Rose Union. Grove Valley's population will shrink, while Prairie Vale's will expand.
